Ulcinj
The southernmost coast — long beach and Ottoman old town.
— Trajet —
2 h 30 min from Kotor
Ulcinj is Montenegro at its most exotic — the southernmost city on the coast, where an Ottoman old town perches on a cliff above a pale blue sea and the longest sand beach in the Adriatic (Velika Plaža, 13 km) stretches towards Albania. The city has a predominantly Albanian population; its cuisine blends Montenegrin seafood with Ottoman-influenced meat dishes; its architecture, unlike the Venetian baroque of Kotor and Perast, is Ottoman Balkan. Ada Bojana — a river island at the Bojana River delta — is a naturist resort of international fame, accessible by water taxi. The saltpans of Ulcinj, the flamingo reserve of Solana, and the ancient olive groves of Valdanos Bay (2,000-year-old trees) make this one of the most ecologically rich corners of the entire Balkan coast. FFGR Montenegro chauffeurs Ulcinj as a full-day excursion from Kotor or Budva.
