Mostar

Stari Most — the Ottoman bridge that defines the Balkans.

Trajet

2 h 30 min from Kotor

Mostar is defined by a single bridge — the Stari Most, the 16th-century Ottoman arch rebuilt in 2004 after its destruction during the Bosnian War, now a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most photographed structures in the Balkans. The Old Town of Mostar (Stari Grad) is essentially intact: cobblestone streets, Ottoman hans (inns), copper workshops, and the call to prayer echoing over the Neretva River. The Kriva Ćuprija (Crooked Bridge) predates the main bridge; the Kajtaz House is the finest Ottoman domestic interior in the Balkans. FFGR Montenegro offers Mostar as a day excursion from Kotor — the drive via Trebinje passes through dramatic Herzegovina limestone karst — or as a stop on the Sarajevo corridor.
