Perast
Baroque palaces on the water — the Venice of Montenegro.
— Journey —
12 min from Kotor
Perast is the smallest baroque town in the world — a single street of Venetian palaces facing directly onto the Bay of Kotor, twelve minutes from Kotor by road. Sixteen baroque palaces line the waterfront; the two islands visible from every café table — Our Lady of the Rocks (built by sailors who placed a stone on every return voyage) and Saint George (a Benedictine monastery cemetery) — are reached by private boat and rank among the most atmospheric short crossings in Europe. In July and August, Perast is discreetly exclusive: no cars reach the main promenade, boats moor directly at the palace steps, and the sunset views across the flat water towards Kotor are exceptional. FFGR Montenegro includes Perast as a fixed waypoint on every Bay of Kotor grand tour, with private boat arrangements, lunch at Restaurant 4 Kantuna, and guided access to Our Lady of the Rocks by appointment.
