Corfu
The Venetian island — Old Town, Achilleion and Ionian beauty.
— Trajet —
3 h from Kotor · Corfu Airport (CFU)
Corfu is the most Venetian of the Greek islands — four centuries of Serenissima rule have left an Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage) of elegant arcades, Venetian palazzi, and the Liston promenade modelled on the Rue de Rivoli. The Old Fortress and New Fortress bookend the peninsula; Mon Repos Palace (birthplace of Prince Philip) sits in a grove of olive trees above the sea. The Achilleion Palace, built by Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi) and later owned by Kaiser Wilhelm II, is a neoclassical fantasy on a hillside above Benitses. The northern end of the island — Paleokastritsa, Sidari, Canal d'Amour — offers spectacular coastal scenery. From Montenegro, Corfu is three hours by chauffeur (via Igumenitsa) or fifty minutes by private aircraft from Tivat.
