Cetinje — Montenegro's Royal Capital by Private Chauffeur — FFGR モンテネグロ
Visit Cetinje, Montenegro's former royal capital and cultural heart, with a FFGR Montenegro private chauffeur. Museums, monasteries, and mountain scenery.
Cetinje — Prijestonica — was the capital of the Principality and Kingdom of Montenegro from 1878 until 1918, a distinction that left it with a concentration of embassies, palaces, and national museums disproportionate to its population of fourteen thousand. The town sits on a mountain plateau between Mount Lovćen and the coast, forty minutes from Kotor by the switchback road that climbs through the limestone karst.
The Cetinje Monastery, founded in 1484 by Ivan Crnojevic and rebuilt multiple times after Ottoman destruction, houses Montenegro's most sacred relics: a fragment of the True Cross and the right hand of John the Baptist, brought from Malta in 1799. The monastery is open to visitors and remains an active religious community.
The National Museum of Montenegro occupies the former royal palace — the Biljarda, named for the billiard table that Prince-Bishop Njegoš had transported over the mountain from Kotor — and displays a collection of weapons, regalia, and historical documents from the Ottoman and Venetian periods. The building itself, constructed in 1832, is architecturally significant.
FFGR Montenegro includes Cetinje in its Lovćen mountain itinerary or offers it as a standalone half-day excursion from Kotor. The drive from Kotor via the old mountain road — 25 hairpin bends — is itself an experience that requires capable driving and a vehicle with assured braking. Our Cullinan and Range Rover SV are the standard choices.
FFGR Montenegro prices the Cetinje half-day excursion from €290 for a Mercedes S-Class. Contact us at contact@ffgrmontenegro.com.
